What is Oz Football?
One thing which needs to be dismissed right away is the popular misconception that the British Summer football pools use
Aussie Rules Football matches

They Don't!

They use soccer matches just like the British Winter pools.
However the soccer matches they use are about as far removed from the English Premiership Big Boys as it is possible to get.
They are all semi-professional, amateur and even amateur reserve and the equivalent of 'Sunday League'.
Not all Australian soccer is like this though - the National League/Ericsson Cup features full-time professional teams with many imported players who regularly pull big crowds. But for some reason, best known to themselves, the British pools companies ignore these matches and concentrate on the minor 'state leagues', some of which are of a very low standard indeed.
However, as you will see in our
Pools Tips section, this can work in favour of those punter who are in the know, and definitely works against 'mug punters' who pick their draws at random.
Just why people get confused about whether the British Summer pools use soccer matches or not can be explained by our
Amazing Results section - check these matches out and then try to imagine this happening in the English game.
